If you’ve spent more than five minutes researching online coaching software, you’ve run into ABC Trainerize. It’s been the default answer for personal trainers wanting to take clients online for the better part of a decade including features like AI workout building, smart meal planning, video coaching, and a custom branded app are now sitting inside one ecosystem.

But โpopularโ and โright for youโ are not the same thing. I’ve used ABC Trainerize with my own clients and tested every major competitor, so in this review I’ll walk you through what the platform actually does, what the new pricing really costs once you stack add-ons, and who should (and shouldn’t) be using it.
Best for: Independent personal trainers, online coaches, and small studios who want one app that handles programming, nutrition, messaging, scheduling, and payments, and who plan to scale past 5โ10 clients.
I also highly recommend that you take the quiz and find out which certification is best for your career goals.
What Is ABC Trainerize?
ABC Trainerize is a coaching and client-management platform built around a simple loop: build a program โ assign it to a client โ track and message them as they work through it โ collect payment. The client gets a slick mobile app (iOS or Android) where their workouts, meals, habits, check-ins, and chat with you all live in one place. You get a dashboard on the web (or in the trainer app) to manage everyone at once.
It’s used by 400,000+ trainers and 45,000+ fitness businesses, including Gold’s Gym, Life Time, the YMCA, Burn Boot Camp, and Alloy. The breadth matters because it means the integrations and exercise libraries are deep, and the platform isn’t going anywhere.
The features are organized into four buckets:

Key Features Worth Knowing About
Program Creation and the AI Workout Builder
This is where ABC Trainerize earns its reputation. You can build a program from scratch, drag-and-drop from the exercise library, clone a template, or let the AI Workout Builder generate a starting draft based on your client’s goals, equipment, and preferences. I’ve found the AI is good for a 60โ70% finished draft, but you still want a coach’s eye on volume, progression, and deload weeks before it goes to a client.
The exercise library is huge and includes professionally filmed video demos. You can add your own videos too, a must if you coach a specific style (kettlebell, powerlifting, mobility) and want your branding on the demos.

Nutrition: Tracking and Smart Meal Planner
Nutrition was historically ABC Trainerize’s weakest area, and it’s the place where the platform has invested the most over the last two years. You now get:
- Photo, barcode, and food-library logging
- Macro and calorie tracking with daily targets
- A Smart Meal Planner that generates personalized meal plans based on client preferences, allergies, and macros
- Recipe library with portions that adjust to the client’s targets
- Compliance reports so you can see who’s actually logging
Heads up: the full meal-planning suite is an add-on (more on that in pricing).

Habit Coaching
You can assign daily habits (water intake, steps, sleep, โno alcohol weeknights,โ whatever you want) and the client gets streaks and badges as they hit them. In my experience, I see noticeably better retention from clients who have 2โ3 habits running alongside their training plan.
Video Coaching
Video coaching used to mean โsend a Loom link in chat.โ ABC Trainerize now has built-in 1-on-1 and group video sessions you can run inside the app, and you can monetize them as paid sessions through Stripe. It’s not a Zoom replacement for serious group classes, but for check-ins and form review it’s clean and keeps everything in one place.
In-App Messaging and Automation
You get direct chat, group chat, and the part I actually use the most: auto-messages. You can schedule automated check-ins, welcome sequences, and re-engagement nudges per client or per program. This is the difference between coaching 20 clients and coaching 60, and managing overwhelm.
Wearable and App Integrations
Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, Withings, and MyFitnessPal all sync into the client profile. Apple Health and Google Fit pull in steps, heart rate, sleep, and weight. Zapier hooks let you wire ABC Trainerize into your CRM, email tool, or Google Sheets.
Payments and Scheduling
Stripe-powered payments handle one-time charges, recurring memberships, and package sales. Clients can self-book sessions and classes from a calendar that syncs with Google/Outlook. The ABC Trainerize.me marketplace lets prospective clients find you and buy a starter package directly โ useful if you’re early and don’t yet have a website.

Custom Branded App
For an extra fee, you can ship the app to the App Store and Google Play under your own brand, with your logo, colors, and icon. The custom branded app is worth it once you’re past ~25 paying clients and want to look like a real brand instead of โanother ABC Trainerize coach.โ
Pricing in 2026
ABC Trainerize uses a โcore plan + add-onsโ model. Here’s a breakdown of the costs.
Core Plans
| Plan | Price (monthly) | Clients |
| Free | $0 | 1 client |
| Grow | $9/mo (or $8.10/mo annual) | 2 clients |
| Pro 5 | from $23/mo | 5 clients, scales up to 200 |
| Studio Plus | $248/mo per location | 500โ1,000 clients |
You can also get a 30-day free trial with unlimited clients on every paid plan, no credit card required. This is a nice option if you want to try the system out before actually paying for it.
Add-Ons (Grow & Pro tiers)
These are bundled free into Studio Plus but charged separately on smaller plans:
- Advanced Nutrition Coaching (Smart Meal Planner) โ $20โ$45/mo
- Video Coaching โ $10/mo
- Stripe Integrated Payments โ $10/mo
- Business Add-On (marketing/automation) โ $25/mo
- Custom Branded App โ $169 one-time + ~$99/yr Apple developer fee
What it actually costs
A realistic solo-coach setup on Pro 50 (50 clients) with nutrition + payments + video runs about $165/mo all-in. A studio with branded app and the full nutrition stack lands around $250โ$350/mo. Compared to Everfit, TrueCoach, or PT Distinction, ABC Trainerize is mid-to-premium pricing โ not the cheapest option, but defensible if you use the add-ons.
Pros
- Deep client app. Workouts, nutrition, habits, chat, video, and progress tracking in one place beats stitching three apps together.
- Strong exercise library and AI workout drafting. Saves real hours during program build.
- Excellent integrations. Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, MyFitnessPal, Zapier, and Stripe all just work.
- Scales with you. The same platform handles 5 clients and 500 โ you don’t have to migrate when you grow.
- Custom branded app option. Most competitors don’t offer this without enterprise pricing.
- 30-day free trial with unlimited clients. Genuinely risk-free to test.
Cons
- Add-ons stack quickly. The โ$23/moโ headline becomes $80โ$150/mo fast once you turn on nutrition, video, and payments.
- Nutrition is good, not great. It’s caught up to the basics but isn’t on the level of a dedicated nutrition platform like MacroFactor or Healthie for clinical work.
- Learning curve on the trainer side. The first week of setting up programs, automations, and message templates is a real time investment.
Who Should Use Trainerize?
- Independent personal trainers moving 5+ clients online โ the Pro plan is the sweet spot.
- Hybrid coaches (in-person + online) who want clients tracking workouts and nutrition between sessions.
- Small studios that want one platform for programming, scheduling, payments, and a branded member app.
- Coaches planning to scale. ABC Trainerize won’t be the thing that breaks when you go from 20 clients to 200.
Who Should Skip It?
- Coaches with 1โ3 clients who can get by with a Google Sheet and a chat app โ ABC Trainerize is overkill at that size.
- Pure nutrition coaches who need clinical-grade nutrition tools โ look at Healthie or Practice Better.
- Trainers who only run live group classes โ a scheduling-first platform like Mindbody or Mariana Tek is a better fit.
Bottom Line
ABC Trainerize in 2026 is still the most well-rounded coaching platform on the market. The AI Workout Builder, Smart Meal Planner, and built-in video coaching close the gaps that used to push trainers to competitors, and the integration ecosystem is unmatched.
The catch is honesty about pricing: budget $100โ$200/mo for a real solo-coach setup, not the $23/mo headline. If you’re committed to coaching online and you’re past your first handful of clients, that’s a fair price for what you get. Take the 30-day free trial, build out one full client experience end-to-end, and you’ll know within a week whether it fits how you coach.
My recommendation: Start on Pro 5 with Stripe Payments turned on. Add Smart Meal Planner once you have 10+ paying clients. Upgrade to a custom branded app when you cross 25.
