Having good knowledge about nutrition is extremely important for any personal trainer.

It can be used as an additional service to sell to your clients and earn more money.

In this review, you’ll learn whether or not the NASM FNS certification is something that is right for you.

Most personal trainers give diet and nutrition advice to their clients without ever taking a course on it. In this article, I will do reviewing NASM’s fitness nutrition specialist certification so that you can see if it is right for you. I’m sure you all know how severe the obesity epidemic is in the United States.

Experts are predicting that by 2030 at least half of the United States population will be considered obese. And all of this is happening right in front of our eyes! A good personal trainer is a personal trainer that gets their clients results ( That is why you became a trainer right?).

This cannot solely be done by exercise alone! What your clients to after your training session with them is entirely up to them. They can go home and eat healthily, or they can go back and eat junk food and drink empty calories such as soda or alcohol.

Proper nutrition plays a more significant role than exercise does regarding the results that your clients will see. You need to help your clients develop healthy habits outside of the gym so that they can reach their goals more efficiently and also have better workouts.

Another certification that goes well with the nutrition specialist certification is the ACE health coach certification. Check out my article on how to become a health coach as well. Both certifications focus on changing your client’s habits for when they are not with you!

This see what this the NASM fitness nutrition specialist certification is all about! Check out the NASM website for much more information and current prices on the fitness nutrition specialist certification after the review!

Let’s go over everything you will learn from the NASM FNS certification

  1. You will be able to teach your clients the basics of nutrition, how to read labels, how to portion their meals and overall about healthy eating habits
  2. You learn how to market yourself as a nutrition expert so that you can expand the number of clients you have as well as how much money you make
  3. You will be able to explain in depth to your clients the vital role that nutrition plays for overall weight loss and management.
  4. You will have a much better understanding of how metabolism, physical activity, energy balance and overall calories can have a significant effect on your health and fitness goals.
  5. You will be the expert on nutrition resources both online and off-line. You will be able to point your clients and their attraction for great products or information on meal prep.

What is included in the FNS certification package?

There is only one option that NASM offers on their website. The entire bundle will cost you $449 as of right now (check the current price here) This certification will cover pretty much any continuing education requirements for the big certifying agencies such as NASM and ACE.

What you get in the package is an online textbook, a meal-prep manual, client handouts and sample quizzes for every chapter in the book. One of the things that I like the most about the NASM fitness nutrition specialist certification is that everything can be done online.

I feel like every certifying agency should put a PDF version of their textbook online so that people can load it on their phones or tablets for an easy way to study. I love using my tablet as well as personal training software to make everything run a lot smoother!

Once you pay for the package, you will receive 12 months to study all the material and to take the test. In my opinion, this is plenty of time to take in all the information. If you end up failing the exam on your first try, no worries you can take it as many times as you want.

NASM Fitness Nutrition Specialist (FNS) Review

My opinions on the certification

I think that the curriculum for this course is excellent! I like more than anything how everything can be done online. This means that if you have a smartphone or tablet, you can access all of the information on the go for a quick study session!

If you have been working as a personal trainer for awhile, it is always a good idea to add new information to your Arsenal so that you can be better at helping your clients. I’m sure you know that nutrition plays a huge role in health and fitness.

It is not a requirement to be certified as a personal trainer to receive this certification. This certification is beneficial on its own, whether or not you are in the health or fitness industry.

It also goes exceptionally well with other certifications such as the ACE health coach certification or a group instructor certification. If you are looking to get continuing education credits, why not tack on another certification, it will only make you more diverse at what you do.

The NASM FNS is one of the best add-on certifications that you can get!

Conclusion on the NASM Fitness Nutrition Specialist Certification

I think that out of all of the nutrition certifications that are on the market; this is one of the best. NASM always does a great job of offering in-depth curriculum and study materials to help you absorb the information.

They do an excellent job of structuring the information, so that is very easy and systematic to study. If you are already advising your clients about diet and nutrition, I’m sure this certification will teach you a lot of new things.

Make sure that the information you’re giving your clients is correct!
