“Pain is nothing compared to what it feels like to give in!”
Now that’s one of my personal trainer quotes I love! And it can be used in every facet of your life, not only when it comes to fitness!
Hey everyone, Coach Tyler here! And today, I have a blog post with a bit of a difference.
If you have worked as a personal trainer, you know that clients not only need to tackle fitness from a physical standpoint. They need to approach it from a mental aspect as well. Because more often than not, the body might be willing but it’s our minds that keep holding us back.
No doubt you’ve experienced it as well. Your alarm goes off, waking you out of deep sleep. It’s early morning and time for an intense workout. But no matter how hard you try, you just can’t pull yourself out of bed.
And that’s natural, it happens to the best of us. It’s at that time, that I like to remember that quote above. It’s about getting up, working through that mental barrier (a pain if you must), and getting to the gym to start your workout.
I highly recommend that you take the quiz and find out which certification is best for your career goals.
And it’s those workouts that are often the best, right?
I have done plenty of research into personal trainer quotes and no one takes credit for my favorite above. It’s a pity because it’s such a brilliant quote, I am sure you will agree.
But let’s find a few more that you can use to give both yourself and your clients a boost when needed.
Quotes That Will Motivate You
I want to start with some quotes that will help provide some inspiration for you, the personal trainer. While we love working with people and helping them reach their goals, we are just like everybody else.
Some days, motivation levels are low. And we struggle. But we can’t let that affect how we deal with our clients. They need 110% from us all of the time. Why, well we are guiding them to a new, healthier lifestyle.
So when you struggling to motivate yourself, remember some of these!
“I want to inspire people. I want someone to look up at me and say, ‘Because of you, I didn’t give up.'” – Evan Carmichael, Entrepreneur.
Wow! Now if that’s not a motivation to keep on doing what you are doing, then I don’t know what is. As personal trainers, we need to inspire people to be their best. It’s what we do daily. Remember this quote and keep at it!

“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure.” – Colin Powell, former Secretary of State and U.S. General.
Well, it’s not fitness related specifically but it’s a special quote. In all aspects of life, doing the preparation and putting in the hard yards gets us to where we want to be. And yes, we all fail along the way but it’s about how you recover and learn from those failures that makes us better at what we do.
“The most important thing is to try and inspire people so they can be great at whatever they do.” – Kobe Bryant – American basketball legend.
I love this quote! And who is going to argue with one of the greatest basketball players ever? As a personal trainer, one of your most important tasks is to inspire your clients to be the best they can be – to put in their very best efforts. When they do, they see results. And results drive motivation, that’s for sure.
“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be a success.” – Albert Schweitzer, Philosopher.
As a personal trainer, I love my job. Even when things are a little tough or when motivation is slightly lacking. it’s important to remember that you are doing what you love. So many people sit in jobs that they hate! We are so lucky that we can continue to not only help others but have a smile on our faces doing it.
“Combine your natural ability with a mission to help people and you will have a rich, fulfilling life.” – Bryan Krahn, Physics Coach.
Part of the reason I became a personal trainer was to help others. I am sure that it’s one of the reasons you did as well, right? And yes, Bryan Krahn is right. It sure does lead to a rich, fulfilling life.
Quotes That Will Motivate Your Clients
Now onto some quotes that will inspire your clients (but you could use them to inspire yourself as well). You can use these whenever you think you need to. Learn a few of them, and mention them in workouts, when things are getting tough.
Or better still, send them to your clients as reminders that if they stay on track, they will meet their goals, whatever that may be. You could send them as a text message, a few hours before their workout. It’s up to you how you use them, just make sure you do!
“Exercise is king. Nutrition is queen. Put them together, and you’ve got a kingdom.” – Jack Lalanne, American fitness pioneer.
Jack Lalanne is one of America’s fitness pioneers. In fact, he opened one of the first gyms in the country way back in 1936. Jack understood the correlation between exercise and nutrition, something that we as personal trainers base our lives and that of our clients around today. This is an awesome quote to use on our clients, especially to get across just how important both exercise and nutrition are.
โIt is not the size of a man but the size of his heart that matters.โ – Evander Holyfield, Boxing Heavyweight Champion.
Without a doubt, everything comes from the heart. I love this quote because it’s so true. If you truly want something and are prepared to fight and push for it, it can be yours. And that’s something that you can get across to your clients as you train them every day.
“You can have results or excuses. You can’t have both!” – Bret Contreras, Personal Trainer
This is something I try to get across to all my clients. Excuses stand in the way of progress, that’s for sure. It’s part of your job as a personal trainer to motivate your clients to a point when they crave results over any excuses their minds can come up with!

“Sore? Tired? Out of breath? Good, it’s working” – Anonymous
A little harsh… maybe? True… for sure! When the muscles are sore, the training is working!
“It’s not about being the best. It’s about being better than you were yesterday.” – Stephanie Chappa, Fitness Competitor.
For clients just starting out on their fitness journey, things can be a little daunting. I like to use this quote as a way of guiding them to take little steps, session by session. And it’s by doing that, that they will reach their ultimate fitness goal.
โToday I will do what others wonโt, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others canโt.โ – Jerry Rice, Super Bowl Champion x3.
This is an incredible quote to help your clients get into a mindful space and focus on the present. And by focusing on the present and doing what needs to be done, future success can be assured. And it can be applied to personal training as well as life in general, don’t you agree?
โThe only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.โ – Vidal Sassoon, Businessman.
Ain’t that the truth? In your personal training career, or when a client applies it to what it is that they want to achieve under your guidance, only hard work will lead to success.
โWhether you think you can, or you think you canโt, youโre right.โ – Henry Ford, Founder of the Ford Motor Company.
They always say that “can’t” is a word not found in the dictionary. It should be a word that you try to banish from your life. I believe that a “can-do” attitude paves the way for overall success. So did Henry Ford and he just had a tiny bit of success, didn’t he?
โA champion is someone who gets up when they canโt.” – Jack Dempsey, Professional Boxer.
You all know that at times, our clients struggle with the exercise tasks that we put in front of them. When I can see someone struggling through their workout regime, I love to pull out this quote. When taken to heart, it gives my clients an amazing boost!
โIf you want something youโve never had, you must be willing to do something youโve never done.โ – Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President.
No pain, no gain, right? Even before they have had their first workout, I like to tell new clients that at times, they are going to find the going tough. If they want the end goal so badly, they need to be willing to push themselves as much as they can. And use this quote to drive that home.
โYou have to think it before you can do it. The mind is what makes it all possible.โ – Kai Greene, Pro Bodybuilder.
I love this quote because, at the end of the day, our overall performance, and the ability to push ourselves to the maximum is all in our head. Your body will go where your mind takes you! The sooner your clients realize that the better for them.
โThe last three or four reps is what makes the muscle grow. This area of pain divides a champion from someone who is not a champion.โ – Arnold Schwarzenegger, Actor and Bodybuilder.
What’s a list of personal trainer and fitness motivation quotes without something from Arnie, right? And this one is brilliant. Again, it’s about putting in as much as you possibly can to reap the rewards.
โThe clock is ticking. Are you becoming the person you want to be?โ – Greg Plitt, Fitness Model.
This is a motivational quote you can use on your clients whenever they need a pep talk. It’s all about becoming the person you always wanted to be. And while the transition is hard, the end result is incredible.
โOnce you learn to quit, it becomes a habit.โ – Vince Lombardi Two-time Super Bowl champion coach.
We’ve all been there. Even the top personal trainers in the world know that feeling of wanting to quit. So we can relate when our clients hit a wall. It’s at that time when trying to help them push through that I always remember this quote to spur them on.
โI hated every minute of training, but I said, โDonโt quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.โโ – Muhammad Ali, Boxing Heavyweight Champion.
And what a champion he was. In many people’s books, the greatest boxer of all time. While training is our thing, sometimes our clients probably hate it (and us as personal trainers) just a little. Encourage them to work hard so they can become champions for the rest of their lives.
โTwenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didnโt do than by the ones you did do.โ – Mark Twain, Author.
An amazing quote for clients when starting out, this just puts everything into perspective. There is no time like the present for making changes in one’s life. Don’t put it off till tomorrow. Start today.
