One of the first things you need to determine prior to making the lifestyle change to meal replacement options such as the Isagenix vs Shakeology, you must ask yourself what your purpose is.  Typically, people select meal replacements in an effort to curb appetites, shut down cravings for junk food, cut back on calories, and to feel better about life choices.  However, making the change to meal replacement shakes should not be a “maybe” selection, where you purchase the drinks, have one here or there or as a dessert, and don’t make a change.

These meal replacement shakes are shakes, but they are more than this.  Use them to guide you through your new lifestyle of adding nutrients to your body, cutting calories out of your daily diet, or by helping to aid in your workouts each day.  Regardless of your intentions, it is important to have an idea as to why you are investing in these shakes. Many people that drink shakeology also follow a program such as body beast, P90x or insanity.

Now that you have quite a bit of background on each meal replacement option, it is important to determine how much each costs and how many servings you get with each.  When making your decision it is important to have a good comparison of what you would otherwise pay for a meal, which is usually split up into a cost per serving basis.  Most meal options, especially when you eat at a restaurant for lunch, can easily run you $10 or more, so meal replacements offer a good amount of relief here.

4) Total Fat in Each Serving

Fat is a major component in your diet.  It plays a major role in supplying energy for your entire days’ worth of duties and it also is the major contributor to obesity.  Fat is a major component to adding flavor to foods, which means things that taste the best tend to be high in fat content.  Health is largely impacted by fat and typically you are at more of a risk of heart disease when you consume foods high in fat when compared to reduced fat or no fat options.  With that said, meal replacements are purposefully made to be low in fat, and this is a good thing for keeping calories low.  One gram of fat contains about nine calories, so you can see why it is important for your diet to eat foods low in fat.  Let’s take a look at the breakdown of the fat in Isagenix vs Shakeology.

  • Isagenix.  Isagenix contains slightly more calories than Shakeology, which means the difference needs to come from somewhere.  The Isagenix meal replacement shakes contain about 4.5 grams of fat per two scoop serving.  This is a low fat content compared to many food sources, but compared to other meal replacement shakes, this is a bit on the higher side.  The positive note is that typically people do not blend this shake mix with other recipes, so overall the fat content is not too bad for a meal.  Another downside with the Isagenix blend is that it contains three grams of saturated fat, which is quite a bit for a regular drink to keep you healthy.  Saturated fats are one of the biggest reasons behind heart disease and they are damaging to your entire vasculature.
  • Shakeology.  In comparison to the Isagenix, the Shakeology contains only a fraction of the fat that Isagenix does.  A one scoop serving of Shakeology contains only one gram of fat, which actually comes from good sources such as flax and chia.  Consider the Shakeology the better option when it comes to fat content, which means you can safely consume it on a regular basis.

5) Total Carbohydrates

The next important factor in meal replacements is the total amount of carbohydrates in each serving.  Carbohydrates are a vital part of health and they help to provide fast sources of energy.  Without carbohydrates, your body cannot properly function and you would cease to exist.  With that said, having too few carbohydrates in your diet is usually not an issue, as most adults consume too many.  This is a major contributor to obesity and it is something that many people want to change in usual diet patterns.  For this, meal replacements serve as a good substitution to many traditional meals, especially to breakfast options.

  • Shakeology.  In comparison to the Isagenix, the Shakeology shake contains only 17 grams of total carbs in a one scoop serving, which is less than the Isagenix.  Now lower carbohydrate content does not automatically give the Shakeology shake the win here, as this category involves the overall quality of the carbs and not just the total.  There are fewer sugars in each serving than the Isagenix, with Shakeology offering nine grams of sugar in each shake.  Also, there are three grams of fiber in each serving of Shakeology, which is a third of what Isagenix offers.  Due to these reasons, the upper hand in the comparison of Isagenix vs Shakeology goes to Isagenix purely based off the high amount of fiber content.

6) Protein Content

For many meal replacement options, the protein content is one of the most important parts of the shake.  Protein helps to add bulk, nourish the muscles, and it is important for building new muscle mass.  While there are differing theories in how much protein is needed in each meal, typically if your protein content is similar to that of a piece of steak, chicken, or fish then you are in a good place.  This means that protein content ranging from 15-25 grams in a serving is ideal to help provide nourishment and to help fill your body.  Let’s take a closer look between Isagenix vs Shakeology in the protein content provided.

  • Isagenix.  If there is one thing that Isagenix does well it is definitely the protein content in each serving.  A two scoop serving offers a whopping 23 grams of protein, which is guaranteed to help fill you.  In addition to the protein content, Isagenix contains a high amount of fiber as well and the two combined certainly will keep you full for quite some time.  Most meal replacement shakes offer protein sources such as whey and other vegetarian options, but the Isagenix offers whey and casein proteins.  Since the source of protein in the shakes is casein and whey, this means you get valuable amino acids in each serving, which is needed for optimal muscle health.  Consider this a major perk since dedicated protein shakes are where people usually get this many amino acids.
  • Shakeology.  In the comparison of the Isagenix vs Shakeology shake, the upper hand in protein certainly goes to the Isagenix shake.  A single serving of Shakeology contains a fair amount of protein, 17 grams.  However, the source of protein in Shakeology is from peas, chia, and flax, which are healthy sources, but tend to lack complete, essential proteins.  The only way to get complete protein is from combining a number of amino acids, such as with the Isagenix brand.

7) Vitamin Content

Vitamins are a major factor in your health.  They serve as antioxidants that help to prevent the oxidizing of cells in your body, which helps to prevent and avoid the disease and illness processes.  Not to mention, antioxidants each serve different functions for your health, so a wide range of vitamins is critical in your health.  For example, vitamin C is often associated with the common cold, but it actually is a vitamin that is needed to promote healthy and strong skin (it builds collagen).  Vitamin A is commonly associated with your eye health, while vitamin K helps to promote optimal blood health (it regulates how easily you bleed).  While there are numerous other vitamins, vitamins A, C, and K are three important ones.

  • Isagenix.  The next comparison between Isagenix vs Shakeology shifts to the vitamin content.  Both shake options offer a large range of vitamins, thus ensuring to meet most all of your needs.  While both contain many of the same vitamins, the only thing that differs is the amount.  Isagenix contains 50 percent of your daily needs for vitamin A, 40 percent of your vitamin C needs, and vitamin K is not listed in this mix, but overall this is pretty good for the basics.  Isagenix contains 80 percent of your vitamin D needs, which helps to promote calcium absorption.  Overall, Isagenix contains a fair amount of nutrients that compare to the Shakeology option.
  • Shakeology.  Shakeology contains many of the same vitamins as Isagenix.  For the average adult, Shakeology contains 100 percent of your daily needs for vitamin A, 300 percent of your daily needs for vitamin C, and 50 percent of your daily needs for vitamin K.  This is a pretty good nutrient profile and it definitely helps to promote good eye health as well as skin health.  In addition, Shakeology contains about 50 percent of your daily needs for vitamin D, which compares quite closely with Isagenix.  In comparing between Isagenix vs Shakeology, it is easy to see that Shakeology contains a bit more of the basic nutrients than Isagenix.

8) Flavors Comparison

Meal replacement shakes serve as a healthy way to get more nutrition to your body, but one of the driving factors in your continuous consumption of these shakes are the flavors offered.  Flavors can make or break any kind of dietary selection, which is a big deal in the meal replacement companies.  With that said, there are plenty of flavor options available to enjoy.

  • Isagenix.  In the comparison of the Isagenix vs Shakeology, comparing the flavors is another close race.  The Isagenix offers a few basic flavors which is helpful for keeping the sugar content lower.  The three flavors that Isagenix offers are Creamy Dutch Chocolate, Creamy French Vanilla, and Strawberry Cream.  While there are only three flavors, the fact that each has the word cream in the name suggests that the shakes are on the thicker side, which is good for flavor and for keeping you full.  In addition to these basic flavors, Isagenix also contains dairy-free selections.  This is for anyone who is unable to process dairy (lactose) and it is great for anyone looking to keep inflammation low.  The flavors in the dairy-free category are Natural Creamy Vanilla and Natural Berry Harvest.  Given the wide selection here, typically people enjoy these flavors and they are not usually reported to be too sweet.
  • Shakeology.  Shakeology offers many of the similar basics that people enjoy including vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.  These three flavors are usually the basics when it comes to flavoring, and they are pretty safe as a result.  However, Shakeology goes a bit above and beyond in the flavors department because they also offer Greenberry and café latte.  These additions are good for adding variety to the meal replacement option.  In addition to the basic flavors and the two variations, Shakeology also offers tropical strawberry and chocolate, but these are also vegan flavors.  Overall, the taste profile is good with Shakeology and some even blend some of the flavors with additional recipes to improve the flavor profile.
